Why I'm Here

My formal job title in Niger is "Community & Youth Educator, English Language Educator."

You can find more information about education and community outreach in the Peace Corps here.

In Niger, I am joining a long legacy of Peace Corps work; the program began the year after the Peace Corps was established, in 1962. Since, more than 3,000 Volunteers have served in Niger.

My personal goals in my job will be determined with time, but the general objectives of the position are "to respond to the critical needs for English training programs, help raise the consciousness of communities on the importance of education, and build capacity among education workers."

I will not be teaching in a formal classroom. Instead, my primary responsibility is to establish programs to encourage education and promote English proficiency within my community.

As I find out more about my program, I will update my assignment description so you can learn alongside me.
